Lynda Britchford Person-centred/humanistic counsellor , NG25
Are you wondering what kind of person I am? When looking for a counsellor, it can help to get a sense of who they are, and what experience they have, not just qualifications, but in life..! The most important thing about choosing a counsellor, aside from ensuring that they are appropriately qualified, registered and insured), is that you feel comfortable with the person you choose. Its essential that you are able to connect with the counsellor, to build a trusting relationship in which you feel safe enough to talk honestly and openly about your difficulties.
So, heres a bit about me to give you some idea of who I am.
Im Lynda, and I live near Southwell with my husband and two ageing cats. I enjoy the outdoors, nature, and I love both the coast and hills. Im an avid reader, both of fiction, but also therapy related books and journals.
My particular area of interest is working with people who experience dissociative problems, or have dissociative identity disorder and trauma histories. I have lengthy personal and professional experience in supporting people with these difficulties.
I am a dissociation friendly therapist and support the work of PODS (Positive Outcomes for Dissociative Survivors)
Prior to retraining as a counsellor, I was a qualified learning disability nurse for 14 years. My background and experience in supporting patients with historical/childhood trauma, personality disorder, and dissociative disorders whilst nursing, really was what spurred me on to qualify as a counsellor.
I continue to feel incredibly privileged that the people who come to see me for therapy, trust me at times of immense personal distress, with their thoughts, feelings and memories.
I have also experienced my own therapy and this is a vital part of being able to provide a safe therapeutic space for others
Trust, and integrity are very important to me, and I am strongly committed to offering you an honest, respectful, safe and confidential relationship in which we can work together.
