Lizandra Leigertwood Integrative psychotherapist , AL1
Hello and welcome to my page. My name is Lizandra Leigertwood and my private practice is New Frame Therapy, I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist.
I am based in St Albans and Watford where I work with adults experiencing difficulties with childhood trauma, relationships, depression, personality disorder and anxiety disorder.
You've probably scrolled through a number of therapists' pages trying to find the right person to help you through this difficult time. It's a courageous decision to seek help and my aim is to make finding the right therapist for you as simple and straight forward as possible. It can be difficult taking the first step toward change, but I am here to offer a safe non-judgemental environment to give you time and space to reflect on your experiences. I am an integrative therapist, which means I value the individuality of each client, as a result I am able to use a number or approaches to find what might work best for you.
I have worked for a number of charitable organisations and within the educational sector working with young people and adults from various cultures and backgrounds. I have helped people living with issues such as self-harm, addiction, personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety. In addition to private practice I am a counsellor and psychotherapist at Hertfordshire Therapy Centre where I continue my work with individuals and couples.
Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in the same or similar situations - perhaps you are feeling unsatisfied in your relationships – feeling used, unheard or just misunderstood. It can be difficult to expect others to change without knowing more about our selves and what we can do to sustain healthier relationships. We can’t always change the situation, but we can learn, develop and change how we deal with difficulty. Counselling and psychotherapy can facilitate in finding a new frame of reference and to reframe your experience to find clarity and understanding.
This is the first step towards help and change. Counselling can provide a confidential, safe and non-judgemental environment to fully explore your wants and needs. Together, we can work towards finding new ways to improve your relationships with others, and most importantly, your self.
The therapeutic relationship offers a unique experience where you are able to develop personal insight and awareness. This is facilitated by understanding how past experiences can impact the present. Understanding our patterns of thought and behaviour can lead to toward positive change to lead a happier and more fulfilling life.
The counselling process can help with issues you are struggling with in the here and now as well as unresolved trauma and conflict from past experiences that continue to cause you difficulty. A proactive approach can be used to help with your presenting issues, such as generalised anxiety, or finding practical ways to cope with depression. However, to make effective and lasting change it is important to consider past experiences, identify past behaviours and to recognise recurring patterns. Gaining awareness of these external and internal conflicts facilitates change and the potential to grow.
Counselling can be life changing and empowering. You learn how to build resilience, you learn self compassion, your strengths, your weaknesses and a deeper understanding of what it is you want from life.
If you are experiencing heightened feelings of anxiety, difficulties in your relationships or just feel that you are currently lacking direction or motivation, please get in touch to arrange a free fifteen minute initial consultation. I aim to respond to calls or emails within 24 hours.
