About Me

Down to earth and confidential short and long term counselling offered. Basic orientation as a therapist lies in the recognition of how the past effects present behaviour - not always in the way we would ideally like - and hence determines our future, thus perpetuating negative cycles of experience. Although therapy is not 'magic' and commitment is required, I am happy to say that clients who finish their therapy with me leave with a new bank of self-knowledge, clarification of issues and lifelong tools all acquired through their attendance.

In our first session we will clarify what your expectations and goals are. An initial consultation allows us an introduction to decide if I am the right therapist for you. We will discuss what the catalyst has been in making an appointment. As you explain I will also describe to you in what ways therapy may help you to resolve certain problems, the obstacles that may sometimes stand in the way of this (what is termed 'defense mechanisms') and how, through your 'free association' we will be led to an understanding of certain beliefs and thoughts that up until now may have remained unknown (consciously) but have still exercised a 'dynamic' and effective influence over actions and thought

Through hearing your narrative, I will offer explanations and interpretations which are coincidental with realisations being made from week to week, and which bring clarity and understanding to what previously may have appeared confusing and inescapable. Seeing life and oneself in new ways will bring, it is hoped, empowerment, confidence and, ultimately, skills to remain calm and happy - even in the more (and inevitable) challenging times presented by life.

I am particularly familiar in seeing clients - both men and women - who wish to resolve issues in relation to specific and generalised anxiety, addiction, anger, depression, psychosexual issues, ocd, medically unexplained physical symptoms, partner and family issues, workplace relationships, difficulties in romantic life, over-thinking/over-reacting, low esteem and confidence, indecision, feeling empty/unfulfilled, feeling out of control/procrastination, attachment disorder, difficulty in liking self and making connection with others, relationship break up and separation, affairs, feelings of helplessness and fear, guilt and shame issues, unmanageable stress, loss/bereavement, trauma, mid-life crisis/existential issues, feelings of isolation, menopausal impact, insomnia, self-harm and suicidal feelings.

I am accustomed to and enjoy meeting with people from diverse and varied backgrounds.

I adhere to BACP's Ethical Framework guidelines and receive ongoing monthly clinical supervision.
