My company - Harris Plus Health was set up in 2017.
I wanted to make counselling and well-being services more available. So I looked at what I saw as the three main obstacles.
1) The belief that it was complicated or strange,
2) That it is expensive,
3) That it was difficult to keep appointments.
So I developed an ethos of:
Reducing my costs and passing savings directly to people I am working with; flexible out of hours appointments and distance counselling using video counselling; and using a practical and straight forward model of counselling.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling; Am an Accredited Registrant Member of the National Counselling Society and Mindfulness Association. I have also taught Mindfulness (a compassion-based well-being training) for over 4 years now to adults and children in various settings. I have a preference to deal directly with problems as they exist now. That does not meant we avoid the past. But rather we explore what our current experience is. I use a flexible approach to the style of counselling I employ. That way I can provide to you a service that meets your specific needs.
Also I feel transparency is very important when you pay for a service. So I encourage you to ask questions.
The service is confidential. They only caveat is that I have a duty to report if I believe that you pose a threat of significant harm yourself or others. In line with best practice guidelines our sessions are discussed anonymously with a senior consultant who is called a supervisor.
What can you expect from this service?
It is important that we understand that I act as a support and consultant helping you achieve results for yourself in relation to a specific agreed situation. So it is a collaboration where you can be honest without the feeling of being judged and where we can deal with what arises in a way that is important to you.
As such - in order to be effective and clear - we establish with clarity what it is that you want to work on.
We also look at how this would benefit you and how these changes might positively affect your life...so we can stay focused and see if we are moving towards this.
Having defined this we can then see what obstacles there are and work through these using effective exploration and evaluation tools.
