Annie Broadbent Transpersonal counsellor ,
You may be seeking out counselling for a number of reasons. Perhaps you're not sure exactly what it is, but you're feeling some kind of need for support/guidance. Whatever the cause of discomfort in your life, whether you know what it is, or not, there is no wrong reason to try counselling out.
I work in a way that is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual client. My core training is in Psychosynthesis, which approaches counselling not by simply trying to mend brokenness, but rather by holding space for what might be trying to emerge through the presenting problem. I also draw on the principles of psychodynamics, the person-centred approach, mind & body and mindfulness. My approach has a holistic view of who we are that includes all our experiences of life, through our mind, body, feelings and Self. Psychosynthesis also sees our past, present and hopes for the future as interrelated and so enables me to support you whether you wish to explore how you were, how you are or how would like to be.
My main areas of specialisation and experience are with:
- perinatal mental health
- grief and bereavement
- depression & lack of meaning
- relationships & interpersonal skills
- workplace stress
- personal crisis
- anger & rage
- need for self-exploration/self-discovery
- low self-esteem
- coping with change
I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I also work in a relational way, meaning I bring my own human-ness in to our work, rather than acting as a 'blank screen'.
The first appointment is an opportunity for both of us to decide whether we wish to work together and, if so, negotiate a contract. I will ask you some questions about yourself, your history, what makes you seek therapy at this time in your life and your hopes from therapy. We will also discuss how I work, fees, confidentiality and the practical arrangements for working together.
