Alan ArchibaldPsychodynamic psychotherapist
Hello, I’m Alan and I’m a trained and registered therapist. I work with a variety of people like you from all walks of life, age, gender, profession and nationality. The type of therapy I use allows me to help you to look a little deeper at the issues you are facing and provide a safe place to do this. I always aim to work with you in a way that allows you the space to explore how you feel. I like to make sure that when you come to see me you will have the safety and security you need to look at the issues you have and feel that I am right there with you. The journey through the problems and challenges you bring is often a painful one but I will always be there to help you understand what might be going on and be able to hold things with you when you need me to. I offer both online (currently) and face to face therapy (once safe) and I aim to help you know that I am solely here to concentrate on you and what you are bringing, not just the words but also how it feels for you and how painful it might have been to hold these for so long.
I have worked in mental health care for the last 24 years. I started out training as a mental health nurse in 1996 and spent the next 16 years gaining experience and knowledge working in the NHS. In 2012 I decided that I wanted to move into psychodynamic psychotherapy. I trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and qualified as a intercultural psychodynamic psychotherapist in 2017. I wanted to gain more experience then and become the best therapist I could for my patients. I worked as a nurse specialist in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Tavistock for four years before deciding in 2020 to start my own practice Archibald Psychotherapy. I love the NHS, I also know how long it is to wait for psychology services, and feel that it’s important to be able to provide a service that can be there when you need it.
The therapy I give (psychodynamic psychotherapy) provides a safe space that we can explore and think together about the issues and challenges you bring. It allows for unhurried exploration to really get to the bottom of what’s been going on and provide you with the understanding that is often needed to be able to identify, grieve, and move on from the pain that you have gone through. I can think with you and hold with you the weight that you carry and so we can unpack, with care and attention, the difficulties you have faced and try to make sense of it together. Often patterns set in your early life can have an impact on how you feel now and how you see what goes on around you. I will be able to help you look at these things in a nonjudgmental and safe space that allows you to find some peace and resolution.
OnlineI also provide my services online.
