6 Ways to Connect with Your Creative Flow

6 Ways to Connect with Your Creative Flow

Mar 3, 2025

    • Creativity requires more than inspiration
    • Coach Tara Jackson offers her six tips to help you create a consistent creative practice

In a world that often demands consistency above all else, I’ve come to realise that true creativity isn’t about rigid schedules or productivity at any cost. It’s about devotion – a commitment that flows with the natural rhythms of our bodies and souls. It honours the creative spark within us, rather than trying to force it into a mould.

For years, I struggled with the concept of consistency. In my life and work, it felt too demanding, like an unyielding taskmaster, never allowing room for the ebbs and flows of inspiration. This mindset left me feeling inadequate, often spiralling into an all-or-nothing approach to everything I did – from exercise and movement to how I approached my business.

But something shifted when I encountered the word devotion in a transformational women’s circle I joined. There, I found a new way of being that felt softer, more intuitive, and deeply connected to my own rhythm. Devotion, unlike consistency, didn’t demand perfection. It simply asked me to show up at my own pace, no matter what form it took.

Devotion, for me, became a conscious choice. It’s a commitment to whatever I’m creating, no matter how it evolves day by day. It could look like focused, intense action on one day, and a quiet, reflective practice the next. The beauty of devotion is that it’s not about the form it takes, but the energy you bring to it.

When I shifted my mindset from consistency to devotion, I found that my creativity flowed more freely. Rather than trying to force myself into rigid structures, I allowed myself to move with the natural current of life. This approach opened up space for a more intimate relationship with my creative process.

Here are some of the practices that anchor me in this devotion to creation:

1. Reconnecting with flow

Every morning, I begin with a moving meditation. This practice helps me ground myself and reconnect to my energy centres (the chakras), clearing any blockages and filling myself with what I desire. As I expand my energy outward, I connect with a flow state and open up to limitless creativity.

2. Softening into my body

Through mindfulness practices and yin yoga, I create space in my body to simply be. This quiet presence allows me to hear the whispers of my heart and soul – the subtle nudges of intuition that guide me along my creative journey.

3. Nourishing my physical self

My body is my greatest ally in this process. I nourish it with movement and real, fresh foods, while avoiding anything that takes me out of alignment, such as refined sugars and processed foods. I listen closely to my body’s cues, trusting that it knows exactly what it needs to thrive.

4. Trusting my intuition

Before making any choice, I pause to check in with my intuition. What feels aligned for me, right now? This simple practice of checking in allows me to move forward with clarity and confidence – a knowing that I am doing what is right for me – rather than following external expectations.

5. Releasing blocks

The journey of creation is not without its challenges. I work to release limiting beliefs, fears, and old stories that no longer serve me. I allow these blocks to surface, and listen to their messages. I hold them in compassion – knowing that each one is an invitation to grow and evolve.

6. Taking inspired action

Devotion is not passive. It requires action – physical, soulful, and aligned with the desires of my heart. Whether it’s writing, creating, or making choices that move me closer to my goals, I take action with purpose and passion.

If you’ve been feeling disconnected from your creative flow, or if you’ve been chasing consistency and finding it doesn’t quite align, I invite you to consider this way of being.
