About me

Having worked both in industry and as a university lecturer, I have extenisve experience of the pressures encountered in both corporate and academic life. I have also worked in general practice within the NHS as well as with people with severe and enduring mental health issues. I am now in private practice. I believe passionately in human creativity and our capacity for continuous personal development and growth. I am committed to helping my clients access and optimise their potential for feeling more secure and at ease, with themselves and in their relationships with others. What is most important to me is that psychotherapy should lead to lasting benefits in everyday life beyond the therapy room. I am particularly interested in life's transitions, in coming to terms with changed circumstances such as bereavement, the forming or dissolution of relationships, changed or lost employment and 'empty nest syndrome' - the perfectly natural feelings of grief and loneliness parents or guardians may experience when their children first leave home. I specialise in working with older people, individually and in groups, and am founder and facilitator of Silver Circle a therapeutic support group for those who, in the later stages of their lives, may be particularly affected by increasing mental or physical frailty, reduced mobility and social isolation. I maintain my involvement with current developments in the counselling and psychotherapy professions through my links with The Minster Centre whose Board I currently chair, and have written for The British Journal of Psychotherapy Integration 2009 , BACP's Private Practice 2011, 2012 and the e-journal Contemporary Psychotherapy of which I am Production Editor.
