Josephine Sheppard
Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
I am a UKCP accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor with 10+ years of varied clinical experience. My experience includes clinical work at Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare, Mind (Hammersmith & Fulham), Victim Support and Merton IAPT.
My therapeutic orientation is integrative which means that I am able to draw on more than one theoretical approach as appropriate for each individual client. My approach to therapy is that it is something of a shared journey in which I am a facilitator of the process. In my practice, the first few sessions of therapy are usually spent exploring the current problem and making links to origins in early life, as well as expressing, acknowledging and coming to terms with difficult feelings. Later sessions often take the form of looking at ways to cope with and manage troublesome feelings and behaviours in present life situations. My therapeutic style is warm and empathic with a good degree of challenge.
I offer short-term therapy, of say six to twelve sessions, to deal with specific problems such as bereavement, relationship breakup, and longer term open-ended therapy where clients can work on such matters as repeating destructive and negative life patterns and behaviours, childhood abuse and trauma etc.
I offer an initial free half-hour informal consultation on Zoom to give prospective clients the opportunity to discuss further their reasons for seeking therapy and for me to address any questions about therapy and my professional practice.
