Emma Azzopardi
Psychodynamic psychotherapistAbout Me
I am a relational psychotherapist, transactional analyst and clinical supervisor (in training) in private practice in Crouch End, North London. I trained in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and I use a psychodynamic approach and draw upon Transactional Analysis and Relational Psychoanalytic approaches. I also offer psychotherapeutic counselling and CBT approaches within my core relational approach. I work with individuals, couples, families and systems as well as small groups. I pay particular attention to the dynamics within the relationship; helping you to make links with ‘back then’ and ‘out there’. I have worked clinically within a number of psychological settings and with clients from a variety of backgrounds and presentations. These settings have spanned hospitals, not-for-profit organisations as well as private practice. I currently work with leading insurance and Employee Assistance Programmes to meet the high-quality service demands of their corporate clients. I am also very pleased to hear from private individuals considering entering therapy and so I have endeavoured to make my practice as accessible as possible in terms of affordability, disability and diversity.
I am committed to ethical, non-discriminatory practice and welcome individuals and couples of all cultures, faiths and sexual orientations. I abide by the principles and ethics of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).
On a more personal note, I am half English and half Maltese and born and raised in London. Before I dedicated my career to psychotherapy and organisational development, I trained as a solicitor-advocate whilst accumulating over 18 years of experience working in Human Resources, Organisational Development and transformation within the financial services sector. During this time, I accumulated hands on experience and insight into the world of leadership and management, leading to an acute understanding work related issues such as stress, performance anxiety and managing people. I also work as an executive coach on significant job related issues such as career counselling, redundancy, performance enhancement and leadership development.
The blend of my cultural and professional backgrounds helps me to bring a grounded and practical stance to what might seem like remote psychological ideas. I enjoy communicating and sharing this knowledge in an accessible way through my blog and various postings within the media.
I value the therapeutic relationship and my relationships with my clients are based on trust and partnership.
