Elaine Nicholson MBE

I am a private practitioner specialising in autism spectrum/Asperger's syndrome.  I work with all ages. I also work with couples and families. I am particularly expert in couples counselling where Asperger's/autism features. I founded the UK-wide charity Action for Asperger's (now Action for Neurodiversity) - the world's first autism-specialist counselling organisation. Her Majesty The Queen awarded me an MBE for my work in the field of Asperger's/autism 2016. I have written/write a number of articles for counselling/special needs journals on the subject of autism per se and have appeared in the Channel 5 production "My Violent Child". My working in this field comes from a visceral, empathic place, for autism/Asperger's is in my family. I have also undertaken training through Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Centre from 2017-2025 and am registered with the UKCP as a clinical body psychotherapist, running a separate body psychotherapy practice www.upeksha.co.uk in addition to my autism-specialist private practice www.elainenicholsonmbe.co.uk and the organisation I continue to operate charitably in www.actionforneurodiversity.org. Drawing on collegial recommendations, I am now offering ad hoc clinical supervision for mental health practitioners working with clients navigating parental estrangement involving adult offspring.
