About me

Clinical Director, Registered Psychotherapist, Qualified Supervisor, Coach I have been working in psychotherapy since 2003. My background encompasses both the private mental health sector, and two NHS Mental Health Trusts, working both 1:1 and in groups, and includes working in a cutting-edge therapeutic community, hence I have seen a diverse range of clients from many differing backgrounds and cultures, and with a wide range of presenting problems throughout my career. I continue to work with a wide variety of clients and presentations, both in terms of psychotherapy and now coaching as well. I also work as a supervisor and mentor to other psychotherapists, and head up Beverley Blackman Associates, a psychotherapy and coaching clinic in Mayfair. Please see our website for more details on therapists' profiles.  I work integratively, meaning that I am able to draw on many different elements of psychotherapy in order to tailor the therapy to each individual's needs. By working this way, the whole of my attention is on you as a person and what your needs may be at that particular moment, rather than on following a set of pre-determined steps. I have an easy, sensitive, relational approach, and I work very much in collaboration with each individual. I focus on each client's present difficulties against a background of their past, looking specifically at their early relationships and environments, and helping them to create links between their past and their present to bring about understanding of their sense of self, and why the difficulties they are experiencing may have occurred. I am experienced in weaving different therapeutic techniques together, and find that the integration of all these elements of therapy, used appropriately, can make for a life-changing experience for each client, whether the work is short-term or open-ended.  My previous career as a lawyer has also given me much insight into the high levels of stress, and the weight of expectations, that many people experience in their day-to-day working lives, and the effects that this can have on their relationships both in and out of work, and on their health in general. Hence I also maintain strong connections with other medical and mental health specialists, complementary practitioners, divorce coaches and professionals from the business and legal sectors.  Professional recommendations: Sam Jones, Award-Winning Business Coach, Millenial Keynote Speaker, CEO of TwentySomeone and SamJonesCoaching.com: 'Expertise is common within the industry, but real passion is not. That is what Beverley radiates. She is warm, articulate and in turn, completely engaging. Beverley is a diamond and I will be recommending clients to her.' Dr Maria Luca, author of 'The Therapeutic Frame in the Clinical Context' and 'Sexual Attraction in Therapy', former Reader in Psychotherapy & Counselling Psychology, Editor, JPCRR, Regents University London: 'Beverley is attentive, clever and highly articulate. Her energy and enthusiasm are positively contagious and her capacity for theorising on complex clinical issues is to be commended. She has the rare talent of moving between realms of thought, negotiating clinical understandings and unpacking client presentations. Without a doubt Beverley has developed rapidly into a very fine therapist.' Charlotte Fox Weber, former Head of Psychotherapy, The School of Life, London and author of 'What We Want': "Beverley is an excellent, dedicated psychotherapist. She is thoughtful, bright, curious, and attentive. She's incredibly competent and skilled."
