About me
I'm Alan, a counsellor, supervisor, and trainer based in Hampden Park, Eastbourne, working with adults and teenagers, in person and online, since 2015. I'm relational by nature and integrative by training, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, and relational approaches depending on what the work calls for. I specialise in trauma, anxiety, OCD, gender, and autism, and I'm increasingly drawn to structural family therapy, influenced by Salvador Minuchin's work on the patterns and roles that hold families together, or keep them stuck. What I offer in the room is honesty, warmth, and genuine curiosity about you: not just the presenting problem, but the whole person behind it. I like to challenge, creatively and carefully, when I think it'll help. I don't believe good therapy has to be passive. I also know something about the way the body registers what the mind is struggling to hold: a lesson I learned the hard way through my own experience of stress-related physical symptoms. It gave me a lasting respect for how long it can take to join those dots. Alongside individual counselling, I offer clinical supervision and training for other therapists. If you're wondering whether I might be the right fit, I offer an initial conversation so we can both get a sense of it.

Training and qualifications
I hold a CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, a BPS Diploma in Clinical Supervision, and a BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Stirling. I've practised as a counsellor since 2015 and worked as a clinical supervisor since 2022. My approach is integrative, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, relational, and CBT-informed thinking, with Clarkson's five relational modes as a guiding framework. I work with both adults and young people, in person and online, and I'm currently developing my practice toward more group and family work. Alongside my clinical work, I teach on CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling programmes, which keeps me closely engaged with training standards and current thinking in the field.
