About me
After moving from New York (where I was born and raised) to London in the early 1990’s, I started my professional career in the UK as a social worker and completed a 4 year MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regent’s University, London in 1999. Prior to this I gained a BA in Sociology from Hofstra University in New York and an MSc. in Sociology from Southbank University London. My background in social work and Integrative psychotherapy compliment my long-long-standing commitment to working sensitively and openly with difference and diversity. My training has also given me a range of therapeutic skills which are informed by (although not limited to); psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and CBT concepts. This enables me to tailor my approach to suit the unique needs of each individual. I have been fully registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) since 2000 and work in accordance with their Code of Ethics. I started my private practice in North West London in 2001 where I continue to see clients from diverse backgrounds with a variety of presenting issues. In addition I have 25 years of specialist experience helping people with eating disorders and other self-destructive and addictive difficulties. I also support people employed in healthcare, education and other keyworker professions who become reliant on self-destructive coping mechanisms to deal with stress/burn-out. Much of my clinical experience has involved working within multi-disciplinary teams in the NHS, private healthcare sector, State secondary education system and psychotherapy training settings. Collaborating with colleagues from related fields has contributed greatly to my development as a psychotherapist over the years. I have been providing Integrative clinical supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors/therapists since 2005, was an Associate Lecturer, Course Leader and academic and training supervisor at the Regent’s University School of Psychotherapy and Psychology between 2006-2020 and was a Visiting Lecturer in counselling at The City Literary Institute, London from 2015 - 2018. I undertake my own clinical supervision and personal therapy to ensure I have good psychological support and regularly attend continuing professional development events so I remain informed by current research in the field. In recent years I have completed; a Certificate in Integrative Clinical Supervision, a Certificate in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, a Certificate in Mentalization-based Psychotherapy from the Anna Freud Centre and a Certificate in Integrated approaches to working with Addictions. I appreciate the idea of starting counselling/psychotherapy can seem daunting as I’ve been there myself. However I’ve also seen through personal and professional experience that improving our relationship with ourselves through psychotherapy can empower us to make positive, creative changes within our lives and relationships.
