About me

I’m interested in understanding you as a whole person, not simply the difficulty that has brought you to therapy. What is happening now often makes more sense when we begin to understand the experiences, relationships and changes that have shaped us along the way. My experience includes working with anxiety, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, self esteem, life transitions and periods of uncertainty or significant change. A large part of my work is with young adults, including the questions around relationships, identity and independence that can come with this stage of life. Having lived and worked internationally for many years, I also have particular experience of the transitions, questions of belonging and cultural adjustment that can come with living away from home or between cultures. I also work closely with parents, whether something is happening within your family, you are trying to understand your child or young person, or parenting is bringing up things for you personally. I’m interested in what sits beneath the ways we respond, rather than simply trying to change them. Sometimes we might pick up a thread and follow it, noticing a pattern that keeps appearing, a connection between past and present, or something you can feel but have not quite found the words for yet. You don’t need to come to therapy knowing exactly what is wrong, what you want to change, or even where to begin. We can start with what is happening for you now and become curious about what we find.

Training and qualifications

My psychotherapy training began with a Master’s degree in Child-Centred Play Therapy, a person centred, humanistic and creative approach to psychotherapy. This gave me a strong grounding in therapeutic relationship, development, attachment and the value of working experientially, including with experiences that may not always be easy to put into words. My practice has continued to develop through further psychotherapy training and professional development. My training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) has deepened my interest in our internal experiences and the different parts of ourselves that may develop to protect or support us. My work is also Polyvagal informed, supported by ongoing training with Deb Dana in Rhythm of Regulation and bringing an understanding of the nervous system, regulation and connection into how I think about therapeutic work. Alongside this, I have specialist training in working therapeutically with children and parents, including Theraplay and Group Theraplay, Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) and Positive Discipline. My background in child development and family relationships continues to inform my work, particularly with young people and parents. My training gives me different ways of thinking about what someone brings to therapy, but I don’t approach a session with a toolkit of techniques to work through. I draw on what I have learned in response to the individual, what emerges between us and what might help us understand their experience more fully.
