About me

I have worked for over 12 years in private practice and also for several years in the NHS where I worked with individuals and couples with complex issues. I see counsellors and psychotherapists in training and have worked in the parenting service of Tavistock Relationships. I enjoy working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and sexual orientations as well as neurodiverse clients. Pyschodynamic psychotherapy is a holistic and flexible approach to helping you move past areas of unhappiness or stuckness in your life. As well as exploring what you are thinking and feeling in the present moment, we will also try to understand how past experiences and relationships may impact the way you think about and see the world. This can help you to gain new a new perspective on yourself and (for couples) on your partner and can enable you to feel more empowered in the choices you make. We often learn to avoid expressing difficult feelings, however therapy can help us to get better at recognising and tolerating emotions that we may have thought of as unacceptable. This can help us to feel more authentic in ourselves and our relationships. Whether you come as an individual or a couple I aim to build a trusting relationship in which the difficulties you bring can be explored in a non-judgmental setting. In psychodynamic couple therapy the relationship is the "patient" rather than either one of you being to blame. In the safe space of the consulting room, couples can begin to listen to one another again and to start to see why they might be repeating certain destructive patterns. I work both long-term and short-term depending on the issue that you bring and we can discuss this at the start of your therapy.
