About me
Hello, I’m Helen, an integrative psychotherapist based in South London. I offer counselling and therapy for anxiety, low self-worth, attachment and relationship difficulties, working with clients in Beckenham and online across the UK. You may be considering therapy, perhaps for the first time. Talking about your thoughts and feelings with someone who is trained to listen with empathy, genuineness and without judgement can be deeply meaningful. It won’t “fix” you or change the past, but it may support you to move forward with greater self-awareness, acceptance and compassion. I work in a relational, psychodynamic and somatic way. In practice, this means we might explore: - patterns in relationships and emotional responses - how past experiences shape present difficulties - how emotions are experienced in the body - what happens in the therapeutic relationship itself I also recognise the impact that societal oppression and discrimination can have on wellbeing, including experiences related to race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and other intersecting identities. These experiences do not exist outside of the therapeutic space, and we can make room for them as part of your story. THERAPY OUTDOORS Alongside working with clients in a more traditional setting, I also offer the option to work outdoors. Walking side by side, rather than sitting face to face, can feel more comfortable for some people when sharing thoughts and feelings. The rhythm of walking, alongside being outdoors, may support a sense of ease, reduce rumination, release physical tension, and help you feel more connected to your body as you process your experience. Depending on your needs, we may also choose to sit together, or spend time in silence if that feels helpful. Being outdoors can offer a different kind of space—one that allows for reflection, stillness, and whatever you might need to bring in that moment. MY BACKGROUND Alongside six years of training, my own experience of long-term therapy has been central to my growth as a therapist. Having sat in the client’s chair, I know first-hand what it can feel like. I believe it is vital to have undertaken this depth of inner work myself before inviting others to do the same. Professionally, I have experience of working as a therapist in low-cost community counselling services where I worked with a wide range of clients with different backgrounds and presenting issues. I continue to attend training as part of my ongoing professional development and have regular one-to-one and peer supervision which ensures my work is overseen and remains ethical. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked for over a decade in the independent film industry. I still hold a deep love of arts and culture and have an interest in working with those who work in the creative industries.
