A therapist will not tell you what to do because a therapist is not your parent and you are not a dependent child who must be told what to do. The therapist is also not your boss and you are not an employee.

Therapy is a collaborative service that helps you to process your traumas, difficulties, etc. and their negative symptoms, negative consequences. Therapy helps you to recognise your own strength, motivations, and capacity to deal with life challenges. The goal is to support you in building a satisfactory and healthy life, not to make decisions for you. Ultimately, you remain responsible for your choices. A therapist’s role is not to lead you, but to ensure a confidential space where you can reflect, and to provide you with tools, therapeutic insight, therapeutic interpretation, along with emotional support, so you can make decisions independently.
