About me
I’m Tom, a white British northerner based in London, offering individual and group psychotherapy. The many identities we hold shape how we experience ourselves, others, and the world around us. With this in mind, I offer culturally sensitive therapy through an intersectional lens, supporting you to make sense of your unique experience and to explore the concerns you wish to understand and transform. I particularly welcome those for whom experiences of sameness and difference are present—whether through intercultural relationships, living between cultures, power/oppression or other experiences that shape belonging and otherness. I work with a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties, including stress, anxiety, relationship and intimacy issues, shame, self-esteem, anger, experiences of power and oppression, trauma, and related concerns. My work draws on a range of modalities, with Relational Transactional Analysis as my core model. I integrate ideas from relational neuroscience, Jungian analysis, Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and embodied approaches to therapy. While my practice is rooted in Western psychological traditions, I also recognise and value wisdom drawn from other cultures and ways of knowing. Alongside my private practice, I have experience working in primary care and severe mental health settings within the NHS, Talking Therapies services, alcohol and drug misuse services, and community-based mental health charities. Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked in the music industry in a variety of roles, including as a touring musician and in radio promotion. This background informs my understanding of creative industries, freelance and self-employed working lives, and their particular pressures and challenges. Men’s work is an area of particular interest in my practice. I support men to explore the messages and beliefs they have internalised about themselves, and to break cycles of silent suffering, emotional isolation, and the legacy of relational trauma and patriarchy. Together, we work towards greater self-compassion, authentic connection, and healthier relationships—understood not only individually, but within a wider relational and social context. I offer both short- and long-term counselling and psychotherapy, online and face to face in Leyton, E10 (close to the Central line). My practice is wheelchair accessible, LGBTQ+ aware and inclusive, and I welcome all sexual, gender, and relationship identities. I offer a free, approximately 20-minute phone consultation to discuss what brings you to therapy. Ongoing work typically takes place in 50-minute weekly sessions.
