Sharon Reid
Person-centred/humanistic counsellorAbout Me
I am a warm hearted, open-minded individual offering a non-judgmental and confidential space to explore issues and concerns that may be inhibiting your personal wellbeing or fulfillment.
In humanistic and integrative counselling we may focus on the ‘here and now’ in trying to understand where you find yourself today or we may explore your current feelings or situation by making links, where appropriate, to the past. Often when one is trying to make sense or understand how they are feeling ‘today’ or possibly may wish to feel in the future, it can be helpful to look at the past.
Many people have ‘life events’ that bring them to counselling, for example the breakdown of a significant relationship, bereavement, or redundancy. Often feelings that accompany life events can lead to depression and anxiety. Or it may be that suppressed or undesired feelings keep recurring, leading to painful repeating patterns of behaviour and similar outcomes in your life. It is not an either or. You may have experienced or are currently experiencing many of the issues outlined below and looking for help in exploring and coming to terms with them.
The way in which I work….
I feel very strongly that my sessions are client led, with you setting the pace and content. My role in your therapeutic journey is to facilitate your awareness, to gently challenge perspective where appropriate and to walk alongside you. I do this by offering the important qualities of empathy, acceptance and genuineness.
Counselling can be open ended or time limited. This is a personal decision and we can work together on determining which best suits your needs. I do however ask that we work for a minimum of 6 weeks together.
