About me
My name is Kelly, and I am fully qualified and accredited in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Metacognitive Therapy, and am also in training to qualify as a Coaching Psychologist. I have a special interest in working with worry and self-critical thinking as I understand how debilitating this can be and how much it impacts on a daily basis. Over the years I have supported so many people in overcoming these challenges through using strategies that really work to reduce their overthinking. It is really important to find a therapist you feel comfortable working with, so let me tell you a bit about what I do; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): This is an evidence-based therapy which provides a way for individuals to explore their beliefs, thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these can interact to maintain our difficulties. CBT can help people to identify these unhelpful aspects and look at how we can see things more realistically and create change. CBT is the accepted treatment for many anxiety and mood disorders and leaves individuals with effective strategies to use moving forward. I also use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) which is really effective with issues around phobias, avoidance, OCD rituals and similar presentations. Metacognitive Therapy (MCT): This is a new, cutting edge ‘Third Wave’ therapy which emerged from the foundations of CBT in the early 2000’s. It was developed by Professor Adrian Wells, and I trained with him personally and qualified in 2020. MCT has similarities with CBT but differs in that it focuses more on our responses to thoughts rather than challenging their content. This means that it is effective with unhelpful behaviours such as worry, rumination and avoidance. MCT has already been adopted by NICE as a therapy for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) but is rarely offered due to the lack of qualified therapists, so I am really happy to be able to provide this innovative therapy. Coaching: I did some training in Life Coaching many years ago but last year began my Masters in Coaching Psychology (completing 2026), one of the first of its kind in the UK, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Coaching is a dynamic and flourishing support and provides opportunities for positive and collaborative working. I am hoping to contribute to new research during my training and incorporate this approach into my practice. Deciding to look for therapy is a big step, and it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. It can be very overwhelming to try to manage things alone. Talking things through in therapy can help to clarify what needs to change and enable you to move forward in a positive and achievable way. I try to provide a safe, empathic, non-judgemental and supportive space so you feel able to explore your difficulties and we can work together to find strategies which will really help. I am really passionate about what I do, and my aim is to make sure you feel listened to and empowered. If you want to ask me any questions we can arrange a free consultation or find out if I am the right therapist for you and think about what support you might need. I’m always happy to have a chat and if we are not a good fit to signpost you to other services if I can. I work Mondays to Fridays 8am – 4pm, but can discuss specific availability if you wish to proceed with therapy. Thank you for reading my profile. Anonymous client feedback: “If you are suffering from anxiety, I highly recommend working with Kelly to master the CBT techniques. I have completely changed my reaction to stresses and anxieties and can now move forward with confidence without these thoughts intruding on every aspect of my life. Kelly is a competent practitioner and has a lovely, friendly and calming manner and has helped me tremendously.” “Thank you Kelly, you were kind and understanding, you seemed to get what I meant even when I wasn’t sure myself!
