About me

Hello, I’m Joanna — a qualified and experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and a registered member of the BACP. I offer professional, confidential counselling and psychotherapy in a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly and begin to make sense of what’s happening in your life. Many people seek therapy because they feel overwhelmed, anxious, low, or emotionally stuck. You might be experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, or difficulties in relationships. Sometimes there’s a clear reason for how you’re feeling; other times it’s more of a sense that something just doesn’t feel right. I work with clients who want support with low self-esteem, emotional regulation, and long-standing patterns that no longer serve them. Whatever brings you to counselling, you don’t have to face it alone. I work in a pluralistic way, meaning I tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw from a range of therapeutic models, including person-centred therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and CBT-informed counselling, to support meaningful and lasting change. Our work together is collaborative, compassionate, and shaped around what feels most helpful for you. Before training as a therapist, I worked as a midwife, which gives me a deep understanding of the emotional and physical complexities surrounding pregnancy, birth, and fertility. This background strongly informs my therapeutic work, particularly when supporting individuals and couples through fertility counselling, infertility, IVF, miscarriage, and donor conception. I offer a sensitive, informed space to explore the emotional impact of these experiences. I provide both in-person counselling and online therapy, offering flexibility and accessibility. If you’re considering starting therapy and would like to ask questions before booking, you’re very welcome to get in touch. Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, but it can also be the beginning of feeling more grounded, clearer, and more connected to yourself.

Fee structure

To begin, please contact me via email or phone to share a bit about your situation. This initial conversation will help determine if my approach is suitable for you.   Next, we will schedule a 50-minute initial consultation to discuss your situation in more detail and get to know each other.   If we mutually decide to proceed, I recommend an initial series of six weekly sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. When booked as a package, these six initial sessions are offered at a discounted rate of £65 each. Following these sessions, we will review your progress together and discuss whether further sessions would be beneficial. This could involve scheduling a specific number of additional sessions or moving to an open-ended arrangement, tailored to your ongoing needs. My standard fee is £70 per session, whether in person, online, or over the phone.

Training and qualifications

I hold a First Class Honours BSc in Counselling from the University of East London, alongside a Diploma of Higher Education in Midwifery from St George’s, University of London, where I also practised as a midwife. This combination of therapeutic training and clinical experience allows me to bring both emotional depth and practical understanding to my work, particularly when supporting clients through life transitions, health-related challenges, and fertility and reproductive journeys. I am trained as a pluralistic therapist, which means I believe therapy should be flexible, collaborative, and responsive to each individual. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw on a range of evidence-based therapeutic models, including person-centred therapy, existential therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and CBT-informed counselling, tailoring our work to suit your needs, preferences, and goals. In our sessions, you are an active participant in shaping your therapy. Your experiences, values, and aims are central to the process, and we adapt our work together as your understanding and circumstances evolve. Whether we are exploring past experiences, working with present-day difficulties, or focusing on future change, my aim is to offer a thoughtful, supportive, and professionally grounded space that supports lasting emotional wellbeing.
