About Me and Counselling
I am a warm, genuine, experienced counsellor and supervisor offering a safe, relaxed, confidential and non-judgemental space to work through your issues at your pace. I aim to ensure you feel safe and comfortable to talk about your issues, feel listened, supported, and accepted. I am passionate about helping others and it's always a great privilege to work with clients to help them gain clarity, feel calmer and more accepting of themselves and come to a calmer, more peaceful place.
I am a humanistic counsellor and work according to your need bringing in various techniques as needed, with your agreement, including mindfulness, journalling, CBT and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).
My interest is in personal trauma and the impact this has on mental health and well-being. Personal trauma, small or big, past, present, one off incidents or long-term/ongoing, can have immense detrimental impact on confidence, self-esteem, ability to think, cope and relax and lead to living with worry, anxiety, stress, low mood and depression. Trauma is held in our bodies and can manifest in inexplicable pain and also affect responses to seemingly normal people/situations and having a negative impact on family, friendships and colleagues leading to feeling lonely.
I have worked with adults and young people in person, via telephone, online and have also run and facilitated group work. I also offer counselling to counselling students and those wanting to work on self-exploration for personal development.
I am Registered Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy); an Accredited Member of NCS (National Counselling Society) and an Accredited EFT Practitioner; fully insured; undertake regular supervision and peer support and regularly undertake opportunities for learning and ongoing professional development (some of which is listed below). As part of my commitment to the profession I am a volunteer committee member of Counselling Northwest a local organisation run by counsellors providing accessible CPD for counsellors.
I offer appointments evenings, weekends and also Wednesday and Friday daytime.
You may be unsure about counselling and if it can help. You may feel you have no reason to be feeling the way you feel or it may be that others have suggested counselling might be something that could help you. Give me a call to discuss this and/or book a reduced fee introductory/initial session.
Are you thinking about supervision?
I offer supportive clinical supervision to counsellors which is fundamental to the provision of safe, ethical and competent practice. Supervision is vital to the practice and development of counsellors and open to many other professions such as nurses, teachers and others that may be working with people. Supervision ensures you stay grounded, maintain professional and ethical boundaries and are regularly practising self-care.
I work supportively, reflectively and with challenge where needed / wanted with the aim of helping you to develop and grow within your practice at whatever level.
I have been a counsellor for over 12 years with a broad range of experience in private practice and counselling services (counselling agencies & schools) working with adults, children, young people both face to face, online and phone. My core training is person centred but this has developed over time and is now integrative.
I am also a Level 3 EFT Practitioner (Emotional Freedom Technique) and can provide supervision to EFT Practitioners in addition to the annual mentoring requirements.
