About me
I'm Liz, an experienced psychotherapist specialising in supporting people with emotional difficulties, trauma, mental health and addiction problems. I offer a warm and non-judgmental space for you to reflect and navigate a way through your difficulties. Many people come to therapy feeling completely overwhelmed or stuck. You might be anxious, depressed, grieving or struggling with an addiction. I understand how isolating these experiences can be, especially when it feels like others don't understand. My clients have told me I make them feel like they matter, which has given them confidence and helped them make changes. About me I have 20 years experience working in mental health and addiction services, including in the NHS. I intially trained as a social worker, and then as a therapist, working with people who have addiction problems and emotional difficulties, often due to trauma or problems in childhood relationships. I bring my knowledge of mental health and addictions, and my passion for supporting people to improve their quality of life, to my therapy practice. My Approach I believe therapy should be an accepting space where you feel heard and supported to make sense of how you feel. I work in a trauma-informed way, meaning I help you feel safe, and we go at a pace that's right for you. Often early experiences in families don’t set us up to navigate life's challenges, or they may have created unhelpful patterns. I'm trained in psychodynamic therapy, which is useful for exploring how past experiences and relationships, may still be shaping how you think and feel. This deeper understanding often opens new possibilities, and brings lasting change. Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. I offer both open-ended and short-term work from Archway/ Tufnell Park, N19. For more information or to arrange a consultation session, you can phone or text me on 07480 067887 or email me via this site. How therapy with me can help Over time, many clients find that therapy helps them make sense of painful or confusing emotions and find self-acceptance. It can help you feel more secure, confident, and able to cope with life’s challenges. Therapy can also help you to break repeating unhelpful patterns in relationships and behaviours, such as addiction or self-harm. Areas I help with Mental health difficulties, low confidence and self-worth - Self-criticism can be connected to anxiety, depression, self-doubt and feeling “not enough.” It creates challenges in work and relationships that can be useful to explore in therapy. Addiction - Addictions can be a way of coping when things feel unmanageable, but then they start to bring their own problems. I can support you to change the behaviours that no longer serve you and explore the reasons you turned to them initially. Trauma and abuse - Effects of trauma can be wide-reaching, and have a huge impact on your life and relationships. I have worked extensively with people who've experienced trauma, including emotional or physical neglect or abuse and sexual abuse. Baby loss and fertility struggles - These are highly emotional and devastating experiences which can be difficult to talk about with friends and family. Therapy can help you process loss and trauma and give you the support you need at such a difficult time. Family and relationship issues - Whether these issues took place in the past, or they are happening right now, they can be painful and confusing. Therapy can bring clarity and understanding and help you manage difficult feelings.
