About me
Whatever your experience of the world, counselling offers an opportunity for individuals and couples to heal, grow and work through difficult moments. With greater understanding of how clients have gotten to this point, I work to enable clients to foster self-compassion and consider what changes and strategies are needed to live fulfilled, authentic lives free from anxiety and depression. Counselling can be one of the most rewarding but challenging processes you'll undertake, which is why finding someone you feel comfortable and safe with is essential. You are invited to book a free 15-minute telephone or video consultation to see if I would be a good fit for you. Wellness model: I work within an integrative, relational framework that draws on a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred therapy, CBT and DBT (cognitive and dialectical behavioural therapies), psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt therapy, and transactional analysis. Through my own experience as both a client and a counsellor, I came to understand that talk-based approaches alone are often not enough. This led me to undertake training in breath-work and mindfulness meditation, supporting a more holistic approach to wellbeing and nervous system regulation. I’ve seen how powerful these practices can be, often creating meaningful change in a relatively short time. I work with clients to find the tools that best support regulation and help restore connection with their internal guidance system—intuition. My approach is kind, grounded, and direct, supporting clients to develop a clearer understanding of themselves and the patterns or blocks that may be limiting their progress in life. Couples: Relationships can be both deeply meaningful and deeply challenging. I offer a supportive, neutral space for partners to slow down, understand each other more clearly, and work through difficulties together. Here, the relationship is the client. In our sessions, we focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and identifying unhelpful patterns that keep you feeling stuck or disconnected. Whether you’re navigating conflict, distance, life transitions, infidelity, or simply want to strengthen your relationship, couples counselling can help you reconnect with intention and care. I work collaboratively with both partners, creating a respectful and non-judgmental environment where each person’s perspective is heard and valued. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening beneath the surface, identify practical tools you can use outside of sessions, and support you in building a relationship that feels more secure, balanced, and fulfilling. Couples counselling is suitable for all relationships, whether you’re dating, married, long-term partners, or at a crossroads unsure as to what comes next. EMDR EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps clients process distressing or traumatic experiences that may still be affecting them in the present. When difficult events are not fully processed, they can remain stuck, leading to ongoing emotional distress, hypervigilance, unhelpful beliefs, or physical reactions that feel hard to control. It works by helping the brain reprocess these memories in a safe and supported way. Through guided bilateral stimulation using hand-held buzzers, EMDR allows distressing memories to be integrated so they feel less intense and no longer interfere with daily life. Clients typically notice a reduction in emotional reactivity, increased clarity, and a stronger sense of control after treatment. EMDR can be helpful for a wide range of concerns, including trauma and PTSD, anxiety, panic, phobias, grief, low self-worth, and the impact of adverse life experiences. You do not need to go into detail about what happened for EMDR to be effective. I offer EMDR within a compassionate, client-led framework, making sure that clients feel well prepared and that sessions move at a safe and manageable pace. Recent client feedback: Thank you so much Ben for being caring, understanding as well as a good listener. You have helped me to find a way to navigate through my desperate times. Thank you for helping me understand and come to terms with my surroundings, my life and my relationships. I always felt safe in your hands. W, 47 I had a great experience with Ben, he’s very attentive and caring and makes you feel comfortable from minute one. His guidance has helped me massively and cannot recommend him enough. B, 22 Ben has been absolutely brilliant and I cannot thank him enough! He has supported me over the last 6 months and his friendly approach in a safe environment has been invaluable. He has listened, empathised and challenged my thought processes in a hugely beneficial way, resulting in positive changes to my life! Thank you S, 26 I was lucky enough to access counselling with Ben. I was anxious about having counselling with a man but went with the flow and told him this. I have accessed counselling over the years but can honestly say Ben is the best counsellor I have seen. I felt comfortable and safe by the end of the first session. I genuinely felt listened to and heard with interest and encouragement. I really liked his interaction and feedback. He was very present and involved in the sessions which was lovely as when I have had counselling before I have not always felt that the counsellor is really involved or connected. During the sessions I felt safe and cared for while sharing emotional and upsetting experiences and thoughts. With his help I have made progress in facing them and the impact they have on my life. M, 56 I can’t recommend Ben’s therapy enough - it has transformed my life. Ben is clearly an expert in his field, taking knowledge from many therapies into his practice. He is patient, thorough, considerate and always ensures full presence in his sessions that creates a safe space and allows you to feel heard. I have tried therapy a few times and never made such progress so am very grateful for that. R, 32 The counselling sessions with Ben helped me so much. I found an instant rapport and felt totally at ease sharing my feelings and thoughts. His attention to detail and memory of previous sessions was so reassuring. The practical suggestions for breathing exercises for example were very helpful. I really felt like I had his complete attention and however I was feeling he tuned into the appropriate vibe of the day. I always felt important and significant and the counselling sessions were a strong stabiliser for me. The sessions with Ben really helped me to gain perspective, and the feedback and suggestions were always spot on and really helped me move forward. Highly recommended. R, 64
