About me
I think that each client is unique and that every therapeutic relationship will thus be different from any other. I also do not believe that one can very rigidly define the goals or the methods for any particular therapy and that, as recent research has shown, the most important element of any psychotherapy is the relationship between client and analyst. I therefore strive to create an open and yet boundaried space in which we can explore together whatever issues come up, whether it be a wound, or the meaning of life, the pressures of the present, or the anxieties of the future. I believe that the stories we tell have a powerful effect on how we experience ourselves and our world, and that psychoanalysis is a unique tool with which to explore, delineate, and sometimes rewrite the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves. While my training is broadly psychodynamic, with influences from object relations, as well as post-Jungian theories, I am not dogmatically attached to any one particular theoretical model. If hard pressed, I would say that I often gravitate towards C.G. Jung’s insights and I do think that there is much that is to be gained from reading his work, and particularly from his experiments in the Black Books and the Red Book. I am also a trained historian of psychology, and have published academic articles in the field, as well as one book (Religion of Mind: The Making and Unmaking of the Psychology of Religion, Routledge, 2024).
