About me
My name is Christie, I am a qualified (MA) Art Psychotherapist, HCPC registered and DBS checked with 11 years of experience in mental health and well-being. I hold experience working with a variety of ages, ranging from children to older persons. This includes working with CAMHS, Learning Disabilities, Schools and Older People's services with a variety of presenting problems. I specialise in anxiety and depression, loss and bereavement, loneliness, communication, identity, self-esteem, motivation, childhood difficulties, attachment and relational difficulties among other areas. Art Psychotherapy can be a great alternative to talking therapies, allowing for exploration and processing of thoughts, feelings and experiences. Sometimes it can feel difficult to find the right words to describe and explore your experiences and difficulties; expression and communication through art can help with this. It is not an art class and work will not be judged in any way. Sessions will be on a 1:1 basis and tailored to your goals and needs. Having a safe non-judgemental space to explore can help you to process and heal, working at your own pace. I can offer a 50 minute session per week, either in-person (Hampshire-based) or online. Before we begin, I will offer a free, casual video or phone call to discuss your referral as part of the assessment. This will help us to discuss what you may wish to work on in our sessions and jointly create a rough plan. You will have the chance to ask any questions you may have and be sent a consent contract and resources which hold further information. I use an explorative Art Therapy approach. You will be invited to use a variety of materials to help express yourself, explore and process the presenting problem/s and your experiences. In your first session, I will invite you to engage in creating a collage/mixed media piece to help us get to know each other and build the therapeutic relationship. I also enjoy incorporating nature where possible.

Training and qualifications
Qualifications - I hold an Undergraduate degree in Psychology (Education) with a 2:1, and went on to complete a Masters in Art Psychotherapy at the University of Hertforshire, achieving a Distinction. I am registered with HCPC (Health Care and Professions Council), and hold and enhanced DBS and insurance, and have regular supervision and engage in continual professional development. Experience - Before undertaking my Masters degree, I worked for several years in Learning Disabilities and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), supporting mental health, play, art, connecting to nature, learning and empowerment, helping to advocate for others who experienced difficulties with their communication+. As part of my 2 year Masters training, I built upon my experience in Learning Disabilities and CAMHS in an Art Psychotherapy trainee role. Art making enabled those who found communicating verbally difficult, which in-turn helped them and their carers to better understand their needs. I then went on to work in Schools and Older People's services as a qualified Art Psychotherapist. I worked with those experiencing a variety of presenting problems, which also enabled me to specialise in many areas including anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, loneliness, communication issues, identity, self-esteem, motivation, childhood difficulties, attachment and relational difficulties among other areas.
