About me
I'm here to get to know you and how you construct your reality. Why are you who you are? What has happened to you? What are your strengths, what holds you back? How do you get in your own way? We can all get stuck and become rigid in how we look at the world, and - most importantly - how we look at ourselves. Therapy is a space where we can experiment with looking at things differently, to see whether we can find a new way of being that serves us better, here, today, rather than feeling held down by the past, like we're unable to move forwards, or like we don't have agency over the direction of our lives. Gestalt therapy is deep and explorative, but it's also present-day focused and growth-oriented. What is relevant from the past will show itself in the present, in how you relate to others (including me), in what gets under your skin, what brings you joy and comfort, and what causes you terrible anxiety and pain. By working in the here and now, we can both soothe old wounds and create a more fulfilling future. I often work with first-time therapy clients, and with people who feel they are at a crossroads and need the space to clarify what they want and need. I work both long-term, and also offer shorter-term more structured sessions (12-16 sessions) if you want to focus on a specific issue. Gestalt therapy might suit you if: - You have a lot of self-awareness, but things don't seem to change - You want to hear more from your therapist – not in terms of tips and tricks or advice, but in terms of how they experience you and the session - You are curious about yourself and wider existential themes - You are interested in the 'how' as well as the 'what' in life - You want a style of therapy that makes room for all parts of you, including playfulness and laughter Some areas of work and interest include: Anger Loneliness Shame Finding internal motivation Relationship difficulties Childhood difficulties and trauma More recent trauma Low self-esteem and self-worth Perfectionism and high self-criticism Low mood and depression Anxiety Stress The body – your relationship to your physical being, how connected or disconnected you feel Dissociation Chronic pain Abusive and damaging relationships A little bit more about me I'm a black-belt kickboxer and PT-in-training with a strong interest in how emotions and trauma are stored in the body, and the profound impact of finding both physical and psychological strength, assertiveness, and flexibility through movement. I'm also interested in our relationship to motivation, self-discipline, and boundaries. Prior to my Diploma in Counselling, I studied an MSc Psychology (Distinction) – my research project focused on how anger affects women's mental health.
