Another day of your life has passed without any difference. Day in, day out. Morning, afternoon and evening just passing you by, like a life that isn't even your own. You feel like a visitor in someone else's story.
"My life?", you ask. It never felt like it was your story to write; it feels more like your destiny, this level of being. You have resigned yourself to your feelings of longing. You decided a very long time ago not to expect anything nice to happen to you. You feel indifferent, sad and insignificant.
Without that inner fire that feeds your soul with joy and warmth, there is just a nothingness that lingers. When you truly think about your life you have that sinking feeling that perhaps you are not destined to be happy.
You are not asking for much; you are not seeking an ecstatic kind of happy, not that. You are after just a bare minimum in life, some level of contentment and calm. From young age you have felt the opposite of calm. There has always been this feeling of being lost and misunderstood. You have tried to remember when was the last time you felt at peace and it is not there, in your bank of memories.
It is like it never happened. Never felt good enough, safe enough, clever enough. Never felt good enough to aim higher.
What can you do?
Perhaps the time has arrived to change all of that. The time has arrived in which you can explore where that not feeling of not being enough comes from and whether it has to be part of you. Find a therapist. In therapy, you can work out together with your counsellor to challenge those inner beliefs and replace them with a more helpful perspective.
In therapy, your therapist will create an environment in which you will feel safe to actualise your new, positive inner status, where you'll be able to let go of previous hurts and pain and release yourself from your own inner battle.
The therapeutic relationship will allow for growth of your inner trust that you have the answers for what you need. The counsellor will support you in those moments of explorations, of deep soul searching work that will allow you to make sense of your past.
Let go of that feeling of not good enough. Take control.
