Dr Nicola Sorfleet EMDR psychologist , TN1
I have fourteen years experience of working as a psychological therapist helping adults, adolescents and couples to overcome their difficulties. My approach is one of collaboration. I will work with you to make sense of the things that you are struggling with and develop the skills that you need in order to bring about the long term changes you want.
As a psychologist I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Person Centered Counselling. I have also undertaken further post qualification training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Schema Therapy. This means I am not limited to providing one approach and can ensure that you are offered the most appropriate therapy for your difficulties. If I am not the right person to help you I will do my best to direct you to a service that is.
I am a specialist in the treatment of anxiety and trauma including post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and I most recently led a national NHS England treatment programme for PTSD following exposure to multiple trauma. I also have a specialist interest and experience in working with relationship difficulties both on an individual therapy and couple basis.
Training and qualifications
I undertook three years of undergraduate study and five years of postgraduate study in order to practice as a qualified Counselling Psychologist. My training involved assessment of my academic knowledge and clinical skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Person Centered Counselling. I also spent a year of my doctoral training working systemically with couples and families.
In order to maintain best clinical practice, I regularly attend specialist workshops and master classes and I have completed training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), which is a National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended treatment for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
