James Dawe Integrative psychotherapist , W2
Hi. My name is James and my approach to psychotherapy is very straightforward.
I believe that the vast majority of suffering we experience comes from our attitude to what's happening. As Epictetus wrote nearly two thousand years ago: "People suffer not because of what happens to them, but because of their thoughts about what happens."
In therapy with me, you will experience the possibility of seeing your self, your life, your past and your future with fresh eyes. We will explore the web of judgement you have constructed and raise other possibilities.
I have worked around addiction for many years, including at The Priory Hospital, Roehampton, from 2001-2008, and consequently have a wealth of experience in that field. Furthermore, however, I believe that seeing any issue in terms of an addiction to a certain pattern of thought or behaviour is very helpful and can clear the way to healing and greater peace.
I see counselling as far more about self-exploration and self-development than 'fixing' areas of ourselves or our lives that have been labelled dysfunctional.
In addition, becoming the father to a now nine-year-old daughter has tended to simplify a number of my previous perceptions of life and some of the apparent complexities of psychotherapy also.
If any of this sounds of use to you, please do get in touch.
