Elizabeth Paterson
Person-centred/humanistic counsellorAbout Me
Hello and welcome. You are probably here because you are finding something challenging or you’re not feeling yourself.
Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or lost.
I feel very honoured to help people every day make the changes they would like.I will listen to you with great care and warmth, sometimes offer insights or different perspectives whilst we unpick your concerns and find a way forward. Together we will set the pace that feels right for you. My aim is to make this a fulfilling experience for you.
You don’t have to go through this alone.
I want to emphasise that your uniqueness is respected and welcomed here. Together, we can create a safe and nurturing space where we can navigate the challenges and rewards associated with all aspects of who you are.
We can look at how your personal experiences intersect with your identity factors such as your gender, sexual and relationship diversity, as well as social background, age, religion, ethnicity, ability, neurodiversity, health, heritage, education, and political beliefs.
I set out on my journey to become a counsellor after my own transformative experiences in therapy. I realised I wanted to give people the same hope, respect, and unconditional support that I had received. With every session, my goal is to help you uncover your inner strengths, embrace your journey, and ultimately, achieve the positive changes you seek.
I am a qualified online counsellor and generally work online using Zoom which means you can benefit from being in your own home (or perhaps car) for our sessions. Some people like the comfort of a pet or a soothing drink to hand. Zoom is user-friendly, works on phones, laptops and tablets and is encrypted end to end.
Alternatively, you may prefer using a phone for our therapy sessions which relies less on good internet connections and may reduce anxiety for some people who are not keen on using a camera.
I also offer email therapy using ProtonMail which is highly secure and confidential (and also free to use). Some people may prefer email therapy as the slower pace allows for deep reflection and considered responses, it also enables you to write at a time that suits you best.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Counselling Professionals. I am also a Level 2 Professional Member of the Association for Counselling & Therapy Online (ACTO). This means I take great care to work professionally, with sincere respect for you. Confidentiality is a priority, as is my commitment to providing you with a safe and ethically sound place for you to talk. I keep up to date with the latest research and training and abide by all legislation such as how to keep your data secure.
