About Me
Hello, my name is Sue, I work with adults, both individuals and couples, from all walks of life. I see clients in person for those living in the local area and also remotely on Zoom for clients in the rest of the UK.
About you
Right now, you may be experiencing depression, anxiety, low confidence, or low self-esteem, or you may have experienced trauma, abuse or other stresses during your adult life or childhood and are wanting to find a way to feel better.
You may as a couple be experiencing loneliness or loss of connection in your relationship. Maybe you find yourselves no longer talking together as you used to and feel like you’re drifting apart. You want to find a way forward to be better understood, and to better understand your partner.
How might counselling help you?
For individuals counselling and psychotherapy can help in several ways. For example, it can help you to learn ways to understand and make sense of situations and feelings that you are experiencing. It can help you learn and understand more about yourself and to find practical solutions to your problems that work for you.
For Couples experiencing difficulties in their relationship, or simply wishing to find more effective ways to communicate and connect with each other, couples counselling can help to improve your relationship by learning how to get both of your needs met while learning to communicate more effectively together.
You don't only need to be at rock bottom though, either as an individual, or as a couple to benefit from counselling. You may also not be sure why you want counselling, but hope that it could help to explore what's going on and help you to begin to understand yourself better, as well as giving you a safe place to have your story heard.
A creative approach
Counselling can sometimes feel like a lot of talking, and you may find yourself feeling lost for words. When this happens a more creative approach might be beneficial, so I offer a variety of creative activities that can help. Creative approaches can help you to describe what you're going through without necessarily having to find the words and can reach those parts of your experience that talking on its own may have missed. This approach covers a range of different interventions and may include, for example, using Russian dolls, drawing, sand tray, fairy tales and cards. Using a creative approach may feel a less threatening approach to working through some difficulties than simply talking.

Fees and Appointments
I offer a free 15-20 minute initial discussion, either on the phone or via Zoom which offers the opportunity to decide together if I am the right therapist for you. We will also discuss the business side of counselling, for example session times, fees and certain limits to confidentiality. I welcome questions about how I work and what a session with me may look like. No question is too small or too daft.
I work Monday-Thursday, 9am-4pm at The Burrow in Cottingham. I also see people from outside the area on Zoom.
