About Me

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and the power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our happiness”   Viktor Frankl

We are sometimes so overwhelmed by painful thoughts and feelings that we become incapable of functioning properly or at its most extreme, stricken by fear and panic. This tends to happen when we can’t cope with whatever life throws at us no matter how hard we try. In these moments we tend to respond on auto-pilot and try to shut down, deny or run away from the problem. This is when our habitual ways of thinking have become ineffective and yet we continue to try to run our life the only way we know how to, repeating the same mistakes over and over again like a needle stuck in a groove. If this is you, I can help you identify and dismantle these deeply embedded but self defeating patterns of thinking so that you can adopt new healthier habits and take back control of your life.

My Experience

My clinical experience includes working with individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, shame, low self-esteem, bereavement, identity issues, loneliness, anger management, OCD, addiction, family conflict, relationship and career problems. I also work with couples using Emotionally Focussed Therapy a proven method of relationship mediation. Additionally, I have experience in treating clients from the media and creative industries having worked as a counsellor specialising in actors and musicians at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Previously I directed documentaries for TV where I gained valuable insight into the difficulties surrounding producing and performing in the public eye.

How I Work

I am a member of BACP and a registered practitioner with BAPAM, The British Association for Performing Arts Medicine. My training is in Gestalt Therapy, a holistic psychotherapy with one overarching aim. To raise your awareness. Alongside traditional talking therapy, I use a range of techniques to help you and I together, explore and understand your unique experience of the world. These might include body process, role play, visualisation and internal dialogue to deepen your awareness of what is going on for you in the here and now. I will also help you experiment with alternative attitudes, perspectives and behaviours to bring about a deep and lasting life transformation.

What to Expect

I believe that effective counselling succeeds or fails on one key quality. My relationship with you. My priority is to establish a bond of trust and understanding based on empathy, respect and non-judgement. For me, this means supporting you with compassion and sensitivity so that you feel genuinely seen, heard and acknowledged

What I Offer

Depending on the nature of your issues and your circumstances, we can work on a short-term basis of twelve sessions or on a longer-term basis of on-going weekly meetings which might be open ended or for a fixed period. Each session lasts 50 mins. I offer both in person sessions and online on Zoom, FaceTime or phone. Get in touch for a free consultation.
