Integrative counsellorAbout Me
Twenty years of working both in the legal and educational sectors made me realise my love for working with people from all walks of life and my desire to help. One of the most rewarding parts of counselling is when my clients begin to make that change for themselves, to become happier, more independent and more motivated human beings.
I am an integrative counsellor and work with a Person-Centred Approach. I am able to include both CBT and Gestalt approaches.
I have experience working with young people and adults up to the age of 80. I have helped them deal with anxiety, grief, relationship issues, self-esteem, low level OCD and trauma.
It is so rewarding when I see a client who is able to start having a more positive outlook on life, when they begin to form better relationships and become more confident in themselves. I enjoy being able to provide that space, time, offering them unconditional positive regard and form that connection with my them. It is important they feel that they are not walking through this journey alone.
- Have you been avoiding situations?
- Have you been in a low mood?
- Do you find that you are comparing yourself with others?
- That nothing is ever good enough?
- Are you feeling nervous about taking the next step?
- Do you fear confrontation?
- Do you feel like your world has come to an end?
- Are you missing somebody you have lost and don’t know how to move on?
- Are you confused because you just don’t know why you are behaving a certain way?
These are the kind of feelings and questions I hear from my clients and the kind of challenges they seek resolutions for.
I work with my clients, without a fixed agenda and without judgement. When I begin with a new client, I see them as a “clear canvas” and very much their own individual and unique person.
I work with my clients through exploration all of these challenges, feelings and through use of questions I try to pinpoint particular words used, especially if I feel that they may hold some significance. Through use of counselling skills, I am able to help reflect these feelings with my clients, to give them clarity and a better perspective on how they could approach various situations.
If a client struggles to explore issues, I will try to use other techniques and tools to help create a better understanding for them. My goal is to support my clients in the best way that I can, so that they can find that inner self and confidence again.
