Rebecca Leakey
Person-centred/humanistic psychotherapistAbout Me
I am an experienced and professional counsellor and psychotherapist. I work in an integrative way to ensure I can meet the individual needs of each client. I have extensive experience working with client’s (both adults and young people) who are experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties which include (though not exclusively) : depression, anxiety, panic disorder, relationship issues, bereavement, work related stress, codependency, narcissistic abuse, emotional/ physical abuse and eating disorders.
Additionally I have extensive experience and expertise working with trauma (inc. PTSD, CPTSD, DID, BPD) attachment and relational trauma, phobias, anxiety, dual diagnosis and all aspects of addictive behaviour including: gambling, sex and love addiction, co-dependency, alcohol, drugs, and other process addictions in private practice, higher education and within inpatient and secondary treatment settings.
As well as working with specific issues and symptoms, psychotherapy can also offer you the space to discuss and explore more general feelings and concerns. Perhaps you are feeling lost, confused, have a general feeling of dissatisfaction or dis ease. I endeavour to offer a safe, non judgemental and compassionate space for you to explore your thoughts feelings and emotions so that you can begin to make sense of what is troubling you.
My aim is to facilitate and support clients to understand and begin to break free from their defensive and protective patterns so that they can move towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
Some of the approaches I draw on include; somatic experiencing and sensorimotor psychotherapy to support clients to bring awareness to the sensations in the body and to access the bodies natural healing powers to resolve trauma and other stress related disorders. I also have a particular interest and experience of working with internal family systems therapy. Internal family systems therapy works on supporting the relationship between the "self" and the parts that make up the self- allowing us to work with protective patterns which have built up over time in response to trauma and adversity.
The core values of the person centered approach underpin all my work. I believe, whole heartedly that when provided with a safe and facilitative environment individuals are able to move towards empowerment, fulfillment and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
I have proven experience of working with clients from wide demographic and cultural back grounds. I am creative empathetic and non-judgmental, dedicated to ensuring ethical and reflective practice.
