Psychodynamic counsellorAbout Me
I work with individuals, couples and families to help explore patterns of relating which maybe causing anxiety, distress or frustration. I endeavour to provide a safe space for us to think about these patterns to facilitate change.
It’s human nature to want to protect ourselves from uncomfortable and painful feelings. However often, the more we avoid or shut down these feelings; the more they tend to persist. As a result, many people feel stuck - be it with their anxiety, depression, anger or sadness.
Couples and members of families may feel unheard or unable to communicate effectively with their partners/others in the family leading to feelings of loneliness, disappointment and frustration. This often plays out as an escalation in arguments or distancing one's self from relationships, both of which are unhelpful.
Through our work together we will explore the roots of your difficulties, enabling you to respond with greater awareness to your life circumstances and relationships.
There is a whole journey from the time you think of seeking help to commencing the work. If you haven't had counselling before, there maybe some anxiety about the process and what to expect. The first step is to either mail or call me to let me know why you are seeking counselling. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to make the process a little less daunting and answer some of your queries. The next step would be to set a date and time for an initial session.
The initial session is around an hour and fifteen minutes long and gives us the opportunity to meet and ascertain whether we would like to proceed with on going work. If that is the case, regular sessions are then held on a weekly basis for individual work and fortnightly basis for family/couples work.
