Dr Muriel Walshe
Psychoanalytic psychotherapistAbout Me
I am a psychoanalytical psychotherapist in the St Albans area with over 13 years experience of working with people with a range of psychological difficulties including anxiety, depression and emotional difficulties brought on by relationship problems, family issues, work stress, bereavement, abuse or trauma. Sometimes big life changes such as parenthood, separation, divorce and career changes can catch us unawares and be more difficult to navigate than you might expect. I am committed to making a difference in the lives of the people I work with when facing the challenges life throws at us.
Brief Psychotherapy
I offer a 16 week programme for people struggling with depression. Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is a new therapy and is one of the five therapies recommended for the treatment of depression in the Department of Health’s guide "Which Talking Therapies for Depression?". DIT aims to help people have a better understanding of the links between their anxiety and depression and what is happening in their relationships. The intended outcomes of this therapy are symptom relief, an increased capacity to cope with personal relationships and a greater understanding of yourself and others. I am accredited as a DIT practitioner with the British Psychoanalytical Council.
What to expect at our first meeting.
The purpose of this first therapy session is to give us a chance to meet each other and get a sense of how we might work together. We will talk about what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping to resolve or achieve. You have an opportunity to ask any questions you might have about the different therapy options. At the end of this session you will hopefully have the information you need to help you decide what the next step is for you. It might be that you go on to schedule sessions for an open ended or brief therapy but sometimes a consultation can be enough in itself.
