Psychodynamic psychotherapistAbout Me
I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Counsellor. From a Certificate to Diplomas, I eventually trained for four years towards my post-graduate Masters’ Degree, specialising in the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and counselling. I am an active member of the Psychoanalytic Community and I see my continuous professional development as completely welcome and necessary, as I believe there is always more to learn.
Like my qualification, this type of therapy is not a “quick fix” solution to your problem. Unlike other forms of counselling, psychodynamic thinking involves exploring patterns in your behaviour, finding links between your past and present, with a view to unpick and unlock your “inner working template”. By this I mean the way in which you tend to relate to people in your life, the way you treat those close to you, or the way you find yourself treated by people in your life, personal or professional. It may be that this inner template makes you feel stuck in repeating behaviours which have adverse effects on your life. This work includes exploring your unconscious triggers – things that may “set you off” without your knowing it- events which influence the way you behave, often without understanding why, or how to change it.
In weekly sessions which last 50 minutes, I will provide you with a space in which you can safely explore ways to challenge the more difficult feelings you might have about yourself, or towards other people. Through our work together, you will come to understand yourself better, enabling you to make adjustments in your life, small or big, towards a more content life.
By reading this far, you have made a significant decision already. You are courageously taking your first step towards exploring your own story, in the presence of someone who can listen and who can guide you towards a better understanding of its meaning and how the story might be written from now on.
I tend to work on an ongoing and open-ended basis but it is possible to agree on a block of time-limited work, of six to twelve weeks duration, if you prefer to have a firm end-date in view. I am usually able to offer a first appointment within a week of contact being made.
