About Me

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for individuals from my consulting room in Central Watford.

I offer a non-judgemental and safe space within which I hope to support you in developing your understanding of yourself and of your relationships to other people in your life.

My approach draws on an understanding that difficult experiences from our past can continue to affect the way we feel and behave in the present - that our earliest experiences and relationships can shape our current ways of relating and our responses to life’s challenges in the present. This approach could be thought of as a psychodynamic way of working, although I also draw on ideas from other schools of thought such as person centred and relational types of therapy. You can find more information about the way I work at my website, www.melanienicholsoncounselling.co.uk

Fees

I charge £45 per session. I offer an initial consultation in which we can think together whether the type of counselling I offer feels right for you and is likely to help you. There is no charge for this meeting. I have a limited number of reduced fee sessions for those on low incomes.

Training and qualifications

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP Registration Number 086059) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice

I have a BACP accredited Post Graduate Diploma in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Hertfordshire. I have regular supervision with an experienced clinical supervisor and undertake regular professional development opportunities via workshops, lectures and training courses.

I have extensive experience working with a diverse range of clients across age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability. In addition to my private practice, I have worked with Watford Women’s Centre Counselling Service and continue to work with Hertfordshire Signpost Counselling for young people and adolescents.
