Marie Fernandes Integrative counsellor , HA4
My aim as a therapist is to help you to live the best life you can and I understand that only you can decide what that means. Counselling can make a lifetime of difference to happiness and relationships. At the same time I understand that change can be difficult, challenging and sometimes seemingly impossible. However I believe we all have the ability to achieve greater satisfaction and contentment in our lives. As your counsellor I can help.
I have worked across a wide range of issues, with clients aged from four to ninety, from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, in environments including education, charities and the private sector. I always start with the person in front of me as it is your goals and progress which will be at the heart of the work we do together.
While I am not here to give you advice there may be some problems where I may be able to offer practical techniques and other suggestions to help you to manage more effectively. Otherwise during our time together I will be encouraging you to examine your personal history, feelings, thoughts and experiences to help you to discover your own way to move forward in your life.
As a counsellor I work integratively. This means that, rather than working with a single approach or theory, the therapy I offer is tailored towards what you bring: your needs and requirements. This allows me to be more focused on how best to work with you as a unique individual.
If you are ready to take the first steps towards your better life, I am ready to help you on your journey.

Training and qualifications
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) this means that in addition to a verified level of training and experience I am also committed to ongoing training and working within the ethical framework for my profession. Accreditation means that I have submitted my work, training and experience to additional scrutiny by the BACP and have been accepted at this enhanced level.
I have particular experience and expertise in working with adults who have been impacted by difficulties in childhood. These are events such as parental loss, separation, illness or mental illness or exposure to ongoing trauma such as bullying, racism, neglect or abuse in early life. These Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can manifest in adulthood as issues such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem or PTSD. Sometimes it may seem difficult to understand a link but working with a therapist can really help.
I am a committed advocate for, improved mental health awareness and education. At the same time I believe that counselling and therapy is about more than this, it about making the choice to better look after yourself.
