About Me

Hello and welcome to my profile!

I am Maddie and I am an experienced and qualified Integrative psychotherapist/psychodramatist, which means I work using theories from several fields of psychotherapy including psychodynamic, person-centred, gestalt and transactional analysis theories. My model of working is varied and flexible, based on the values of creativity and appropriate spontaneity, underpinned by psychodynamic, systemic and existentialist thinking.

I understand how coming for therapy can be daunting, especially for the first time. Sometimes it might feel that you may be entering the unknown and it can be confusing. It is a courageous first step towards taking charge of your life which shows your awareness that something needs to change and deserves to be celebrated. It is as well exciting as you realise that things can and will change in the future for the better.

I believe that it is important for you to find a therapist that is right for you, who will give you enough support and challenge to help you develop and grow as a person.

Psychotherapy is a journey with many twists and turns as you begin to unravel and understand your patterns, unhealthy habits, limiting beliefs and what it is you can really achieve in life.

"The wound is the place where the Light enters you." RUMI

I strongly believe that the answer to life’s dilemmas is not ‘out there’ but within us. When we start to love and accept ourselves as we are, we can begin to feel more empathy for others, our relationships will improve, and we will find it easier to have the sort of life we want. I offer you the space for your story to be told, heard and understood in a confidential, non-judgmental safe space which facilitates exploration and promote insight and personal growth, where you can consider your options and make choices.

My aim is to support you make tangible changes in your way of being, in relation to yourself, others and your wider world. I will equip you with some skills to help you deal with negative thoughts and feelings, so that you can make changes and move forward in your life.

My earnest belief is that we each have the innate resources to meet our own needs however may need some guidance from a trained companion to realise our latent potential and make sense of our world. I am passionate about personal empowerment, self-responsibility/awareness and believe that these can be the keys to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. We will pay particular attention to your thoughts and feelings taking into account your past experiences, current circumstances, and desires for the future. The aim is to tailor therapy around your individual needs to enable you to work through whatever is causing you suffering and distress and to prepare you to make the changes you want in your life.

Individual therapy

Working creatively in therapy aims to finding ways to define and make sense of the emotions that we struggle to understand and express verbally. It offers a way to bring to the surface the emotions and experiences that are sometimes forgotten, but are still stored in the mind and body, and are affecting our present lives. Using creativity in the session is always negotiated with the client as it is not something that is right for all people and therefore there is always the option not to work in this way.

Psychotherapy involves commitment, of time, energy and money. Before we make this commitment, it is important to meet for an “assessment session”. During this session you will get a chance to get a sense of whether you wish to go further, and I can explore with you what you are struggling with and what kind of changes you are hoping for.

We can discuss whether to engage in a time-limited or short-term piece of work or whether to embark on an open-ended or long-term journey of psychotherapy.

Clients are welcome to come for a first assessment, at a reduced rate, to discuss what concerns bring them to therapy and how we might work together. They are then free to decide if they wish to proceed with therapy.

The cost is £95 for one session and it lasts 50 minutes.

Couples therapy

Whether you are seeking to revitalise or deepen your relationship, or whether you are facing a conflict or crisis situation I offer a creative approach to help you address your patterns of being together.

Couples sessions are usually longer than those for one to one psychotherapy, typically 75 minutes.

The cost for a 75 minutes session is £160 and the frequency of sessions is by negotiation.

Couples therapy can help you both to:

  • See the relationship in a more objective way
  • Improve the way you interact with each other
  • Express your emotions and thoughts
  • Communicate with each other more effectively
  • Recognise the strengths in your relationship

Clients are welcome to come for a first assessment, at a reduced rate, to discuss what concerns bring them to therapy and how we might work together. They are then free to decide if they wish to proceed with therapy.
