Leanne Prosvic
Existential psychotherapistAbout Me
Hello and welcome
My name is Leanne and I am accredited existential psychotherapist.
Choosing the right therapist can be daunting but also hopeful and exciting. My approach to therapy is welcoming and collaborative. I aim to provide a relaxed space where you can talk openly with someone supportive, genuine and impartial.
I offer one-to-one sessions on an on-going or time limited basis.
How can therapy help?
Life provokes fundamental challenges and anxieties and we all experience times when we are thrown into difficult situations. Right now, many of us are experiencing sadness, anxiety, anger or loss due to the pandemic and lockdown.
Other reasons that bring someone to therapy might be a specific event such as divorce or bereavement, or a more general sense of unease. You may feel your coping mechanisms are no longer working or be experiencing health issues such as panic attacks, insomnia or chronic illness.
Therapy helps to deepen our understanding of ourselves, our feelings and how we relate to others. People often avoid or disallow difficult feelings. This might mean that much of our energy is bound up feeling anxious about seemingly inconsequential things or angry towards someone for a minor slight, rather than acknowledging and accepting a feeling of loss, disappointment or sadness.
Allowing space in therapy to explore and be curious about all our feelings and experiences helps things to shift and change. In this way therapy helps to open up possibilities and provide a richer connection to ourselves, to others and to the world around us.
How I work
I work integratively incorporating elements of existential and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
As an existential therapist, I believe that moods of sadness, anxiety, depression, anger tell us something significant about who we are and what is important to us. I aim to help explore these patterns of thoughts, feelings or behaviours that are making life difficult with an attitude of openness and curiosity. I also offer a space where you can let go of thinking, and feelings can just emerge without the need for explanations or justifications.
I see counselling as a joint endeavour. I am there to support your process and help you to find your own path forward. I hope that the process will help you to re-discover and illuminate understanding, purpose and meaning; what matters to you, what you would like to be different and how to meet inevitable challenges of life with renewed passion.
