Psychosynthesis psychotherapistAbout Me
Seeking therapy can be a scary decision. I do believe however that the issues prompting you to come to me have the potential to enable you to move into a new level of self-understanding. I will provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment for you to explore the challenges you are facing and work with you to heal, learn and move forward in your life.
A key principle of my particular therapy - Psychosynthesis, suggests that the symptoms of our problems can indicate a deeper meaning or potential trying to emerge in our lives. Our work together will try to discover what that might be. To achieve this I offer a focused approach for a specific issue in short-term work or we can go into more depth for work in the longer term.
I have a particular interest in two areas of support.
Health Related Issues – Before moving into psychotherapy and counselling I had a long career in healthcare including recently working for over 12 years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist supporting and counselling people living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer. Along with all the physical issues caused, cancer and other chronic diseases have a powerful psychological effect on a person’s life. I also work with people coping with the impacts of life-limiting health issues.
Trauma and Post Traumatic Distress, Ex-Forces Personnel – I was for a time an Officer in the Reserve Forces and as such saw active service in the Iraq War. This experience and its consequences for me personally help me understand some of the issues you may be facing.
My working approach – Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy
A key principle of Psychosynthesis suggests that the symptoms of our problems can indicate a deeper meaning or potential trying to emerge in our lives. Our work together will try to discover what that might be. To achieve this I offer a focused approach for a specific issue in short-term work or we can go into more depth for work in the longer term.
First Steps
You can leave me a note using the green 'contact' button and we can arrange an initial meeting where you can tell me more about your situation, issues on which you may wish to focus and ask any questions about the work and the therapy process. If we both feel it would be good to continue working I would ask you to book an initial 6 sessions. We would then review to decide whether the short term work was all that was needed or if you wish to continue in a more open ended contract.
