I aim to meet you as one human being to another and my counselling style is gentle. I offer a confidential space, where you can feel safe, understood and trusted, as you start to explore the reasons why you feel the way you do.

I have considerable experience working with clients who seek help for a range of emotional difficulties, including anxiety, depression, panic disorder, family and relationship issues, loss,   low self-esteem, work-related stress, and addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, internet).I have many years experience of working with 12-step programmes.

I am experienced in short-term counselling as well as long term therapy and work with adult clients of all ages and backgrounds.

HOW THERAPY CAN HELP

Therapy is a very personal process. It gives you the chance to explore your thoughts, behaviour and emotions in a safe and impartial setting, outside your usual circles of family and friends, and with a trained professional whom you can trust to keep things completely confidential.

Talking about your difficulties, and working them through in this setting, can help you see things from a different perspective. As well as helping to ease emotional difficulties or destructive behavioural patterns, it can lead to deep and long-lasting changes allowing you to move forward with increased resource to meet life's challenges and a greater openness to new experiences.

MY APPROACH

As an Integrative therapist I am able to draw on a range of knowledge and skills from different established theoretical backgrounds - particularly Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. We are all unique and this way of working helps me to adapt the therapy to fit the client, rather than adapting the client to fit the therapy.

Often the struggles we experience in adult relationships have their roots in difficulties experienced during childhood. It’s sometimes painful to relive difficult memories but we will work at your pace and with the material you feel able to bring. As well as considering the past, it’s important to consider how repeated patterns of thinking in the present may prevent you moving forward.

My overall aim is to provide a safe and empathic environment, allowing you to acquire greater understanding of where your problems originate, process the feelings you experience as you acquire this understanding, and begin to heal and move forwards in your life.

THE NEXT STEP

Finding the right therapist is a challenging process and I aim to make it as straightforward and helpful as possible. Please feel free to email me with any questions you have, or to book an initial session.
