I invite you to put aside one therapeutic hour a week, for you, to reflect on your feelings and experience - to have a voice and to be heard. This can be enormously beneficial in getting back in touch with your strengths and re-instilling hope.
Many of us have times in our lives when things feel out of control, or we feel particularly low, that life is a struggle. Be it in the form of anxiety, depression, bereavement, addiction, relationship issues or having to adapt to unexpected and unwelcome change. We may feel the need to explore our identity or find a renewed sense of purpose and direction in our lives. Perhaps we are asking ourselves questions such as: Who am I? How has it come to this? Why do I keep making the same mistakes? Where do I go from here? Talking about what is going on for you can help clear your mind, lift the weight off your shoulders and/or, over time, dissolve the heavy emotional pain deep inside you. This new, lighter, way of being allows you to find the courage, skills and resilience not only to keep going, but to flourish.
My approach is calm, gentle and non-judgemental. My theoretical perspective is Integrative, enabling me to draw from a range of Humanistic approaches to suit you and your unique needs. Humanistic therapies are empathic in approach and aim to empower and motivate the client in the therapeutic process. Focus includes not only the clients’ internal world, but also their experiences within the wider family and socio-cultural context.
In our initial 30 minute consultation, which I offer free of charge, we will discuss your reasons for coming to counselling and how together we can fulfil any expectations or desired outcome you might have. This time together will help you decide if I am the right therapist for you; it is human connection and acceptance that makes therapy productive, so our relationship will be key to you feeling safe in exploring your feelings and experiences.
In further sessions, whilst working very much in the here-and-now we may also look into your past, particularly in the context of how it informs you in your day to day life now. As we work towards a greater understanding of what is going on for you, an important part of therapy will be in recognising and validating your feelings. As sessions progress we may consider how you might want to fulfil your potential for a happier, more satisfying life moving forward.
The therapeutic process can bring deeply held emotions to the surface, the idea of which may initially be daunting. However, it can also be comforting, enriching, exciting and empowering, where real and lasting change can take place.

Training and qualifications
I am fully qualified and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I can be found on the BACP Register which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.
My qualifications include the BACP accredited Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (Wealden Psychology Institute) specialising in three main approaches;
Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis.
Alongside my private practice I work in St Catherines Hospice with anticipatory and bereaved adult clients. I also work with parents and support children in schools with a wide range of behavioural and/or emotional issues. I am a Designated Child Protection Officer for the charity Time 4 Children (reg.1111837).
I adhere to the BACP ethical framework and in my commitment to continuing professional development I have additional training in: Mindfulness and Stress Reduction, Attachment, Trauma and Recovery, FGM, Sexual Abuse, Child Protection and Multi-Agency Safeguarding. I also have training and experience of working with clients with Acquired Brain Injury.
I have current Enhanced DBS Clearances.
I attend regular supervision and have full-cover professional indemnity insurance.
I see clients once a week (more often if in crisis) and my fees are:
Weekdays and evenings (50 mins) - £40
Weekends (50 mins) - £50
I offer long and short-term counselling. The number of sessions you have is, of course, up to you and can be discussed in the first session or/and as therapy progresses.
I offer a concessionary rate to those on a low income.
