Dr Karen Williams Psychologist , PR4
Hello, I’m Karen. I’m here to help if you are finding life tough at the moment. I’m here to walk alongside you if life just feels like an uphill struggle and it’s difficult to cope with things. Through sharing your worries and concerns with me, we can work together to make sense of your difficulties. I believe in the power of change and I would like to support you on a journey of exploration and discovery, that helps you make changes that can move you towards a more enriched and fulfilled life. I offer a compassionate, confidential and non-judgemental online therapy service in the UK via webcam, instant messaging and email that respects your individual needs and choices.
My approach to therapy
My aim is to help you to make changes that make a difference to your life. I can help you handle those painful and unpleasant thoughts and feelings that like to boss you around in a way that puts you back in control of your life and how you live it. Working together, we can think about what is important and meaningful to you and consider what steps you can take to start enjoying life more.
Training as a psychologist has given me the advantage of being able to draw on a variety of psychological and therapeutic approaches, which means I always tailor my approach to your individual needs and preferences. I often draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) within my practice. I also have an interest in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), which can help you develop a sense of compassion towards yourself. This might sound tricky at first, as our minds can tell us to do the opposite and be very self-critical! Nonetheless, I have experienced the positive impact of ACT and CFT techniques first-hand and I believe that if we can change how we relate to our problems and ourselves, our lives can change for the better.
I am a clinical psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am also a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO). I work as an online therapist in accordance with the professional and ethical standards of each of these organisations. I have worked within a variety of roles supporting individuals at difficult times in their lives for the past 15 years, including as a clinical psychologist. My previous experience as a clinical psychologist includes working within a chronic pain service at Haywood Hospital and as the lead clinical psychologist for the eating disorder and rehabilitation services at The Priory Hospital, Cheadle Royal. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist, I have completed a diploma in online counselling, which has prepared me to work as an online therapist. I now work within private practice and I am passionate about supporting individuals via online therapy.
