Welcome
If you've found your way here, you may be feeling that life is difficult at the moment and your usual coping strategies aren't working . You may be looking for some additional support, a different perspective and wondering if therapy will help.
Psychotherapy with me can support you to:
- Navigate life transitions, endings and new beginnings.
- Process difficult feelings and traumatic events.
- Explore your identity and develop a stronger sense of self.
- Manage anxiety, depression and low mood,
- Better understand yourself and others.
- Enhance your relationships.
- Feel more confident and resourceful.
- Gain clarity.
Sometimes, we get very stuck in our own heads, overwhelmed by our thoughts, feelings of doubt and self-criticism. Our problems can feel insurmountable, it can be hard to make sense of things and we may feel lost or defeated. Therapy is a space where thoughts and emotions can be expressed and shared, you can tell your story, I will listen and together we will work through your difficulties, consider what got you here, process feelings, explore options and find a way for you to move towards your goals.
My Approach
I work with Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a method of psychotherapy that emphasises personal growth and starts from the premise that:
- You’re OK.
- You have the ability to think and problem solve.
- Change is possible.
I find TA is particularly good for exploring how you became the way you are, for thinking about how your childhood experiences and family relationships. In therapy often we are making connections between the struggles we experience in the present and events in our past. For example, you may notice the same negative or destructive patterns keep repeating. Together, we can identify these patterns, spot how you might be sabotaging your own success and understand why, so that you can break free of the past and begin to make the changes you want for yourself.
I offer a monthly dream sharing group for, current and past individual therapy clients, who are interested in exploring their dreams in the company of others. I have a monthly TA Psychotherapy Group beginning in September, please enquire for details.
How I will work with you
We’ll start with an initial free consultation to find out more about your current situation, reasons for starting therapy and what you want to achieve.
After the consultation, if we decide to work together, the focus and the number of sessions will be determined by you and what you want to achieve. I offer both longterm, open-ended therapy and shorter solution focussed work.
My role is to accompany and support you on your journey. I will listen and encourage you to reflect on your experiences. I may offer insights and reflections
My aim is that you will experience a stronger sense of self, greater autonomy and choice, so that you feel more resourceful and equipped to make confident decisions about your future.
I enjoy working creatively with art, reflective writing, stories and metaphor. If this is something that interests you, we can explore how this might be incorporated into your therapy.
I offer individual, group and couples therapy. To find out more, please visit my website www.karennolan.co.uk
