About Me

I'm an experienced psychotherapist currently working online.  I specialise in anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, work-related stress and relationship issues.

I offer a safe and confidential therapeutic space, where you will feel accepted, heard and supported.

If you've found your way here, it is likely that you're finding life difficult at the moment. You may be looking for some support for yourself or a loved one and wondering if therapy will help.  Psychotherapy can support you to:

- Navigate life transitions, endings and new beginnings.

- Process difficult feelings and traumatic events.

- Explore your identity and develop a stronger sense of self.

- Manage anxiety, depression and low mood,

- Better understand yourself and others.

- Enhance your relationships.

- Feel more confident and resourceful.

- Gain clarity.

Sometimes, we get very stuck inside our own heads, overwhelmed by our own thoughts, feelings and self-criticism. Our problems can feel insurmountable, it can be hard to make sense of things and we may feel lost or defeated.  Therapy is a space where thoughts and feelings can be expressed and shared, you can tell your story, I will listen and together we will work through your difficulties, consider what got you here, explore options and find a way forward.

My Approach

I offer individual 1:1 and group psychotherapy using Transactional Analysis (TA). This is a method of psychotherapy that emphasises personal growth and starts from the premise that:

  • You’re OK.
  • You have the ability to think and problem solve.
  • Change is possible.

I find TA is particularly good for exploring how you became the way you are, for thinking about how your childhood experiences and family relationships. In therapy often we are making connections between the struggles we experience in the present and events in our past.  For example, you may notice the same negative or destructive patterns keep repeating. Together, we can identify these patterns, spot how you might be sabotaging your own success and understand why, so that you can begin to make the changes you want for yourself.

I offer a monthly dream sharing group for individual therapy clients who are interested in exploring g dreams and dreaming in the company of others.

How I will work with you

We’ll start with an initial free consultation to find out more about your current situation, reasons for starting therapy and what you want to achieve.

After the consultation, if we decide to work together, the focus and the number of sessions will be determined by you and what you want to achieve. I offer both longterm, open-ended therapy and shorter solution focussed work.                                                                                                                                          My role is to accompany and support you on your journey. I will listen and encourage you to reflect on your experiences. I may offer insights and reflections

My aim is that you will experience a stronger sense of self, greater autonomy and choice, so that you feel more resourceful and equipped to make confident decisions about your future.

I enjoy working creatively with art, reflective writing, stories and metaphor. If this is something that interests you, we can explore how this might be incorporated into your therapy.

I  offer both individual and group psychotherapy. To find out more, please visit my website www.karennolan.co.uk

My work as a psychotherapist began in 2015 volunteering in a busy therapy centre. I started a private practice in 2017 where I see both short and long term clients. I have special interests in creativity, workplace wellbeing, stress  and ADHD.  Before training in Transactional Analysis, I had a successful career as a senior manager working for public sector, not for profit and commercial organisations.  I was a helpline volunteer with Samaritans for several years and currently volunteer with Frontline 19.

Ethical Practice

I’m a registered member of BACP and adhere to their code of ethics and professional standards.
