Julie Nathanson
Gestalt counsellorAbout Me
My name is Julie (she/her/hers) and I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and trainee psychotherapist. I run a private practice in Hampton, Twickenham.
I offer face-to-face sessions with clients from Kingston-upon-Thames, Wimbledon, Epsom, and the wider Surrey and Greater London area, as well as online sessions.
I am warm, empathetic and open; I offer a non-judgemental, supportive, confidential space for you to bring any needs or concerns, no matter how small. You may perhaps be feeling stuck, numb, empty; maybe stressed, confused, down, unable to cope or generally not like yourself. You may not be sure about why you are coming to see me, but just know that things are not okay in your life. You may have spiritual or existential questions you want to engage with. Whatever painful feelings or experiences you are bringing, I will support you to explore what is causing your difficulties. Therapy can help to create movement and shifts that did not previously feel present or possible.
I work with anybody experiencing mental health issues or mental distress. I work with a wide range of issues including but not limited to: addiction; adoption; alcohol use; anger management; abortion; anxiety; behavioural issues; bereavement; depression; divorce; domestic abuse and domestic violence; drug abuse; eating disorders; emotional disturbance; family conflict; feeling sad; infertility; life transitions; marital and pre-marital issues; non-binary related issues; personality disorders; pregnancy; prenatal issues; postnatal depression; racial identity; relationship issues; low self-esteem and low self-confidence; self-harming; sexual abuse; sexual addiction; sexuality; spirituality; sports performance; stress; substance use; suicidal ideation; transgender; trauma and PTSD; women's issues.
I hold full professional insurance and abide by the ethical principles of the BACP.

Fees
I charge £55 per session.
Payment is required on the day of our session. You can pay by cash, bank transfer, or card (a very small fee applies for card payments). I operate a 48 hours cancellation policy. Cancellations with 48 hours' notice will not incur a fee, otherwise the full fee is payable.
I usually offer individual weekly sessions that last 50 minutes.
Sometimes people can come for a brief period of time, between 6 to 12 weeks, to focus on a specific issue. Others may choose to work with me in an open-ended way, where much broader and deeper exploration takes place. We can discuss what your needs are in our initial session.
Training and qualifications
I hold a Diploma in Gestalt psychotherapeutic counselling. I am also a registered BACP member and a UKCP trainee member working towards an accredited MSc qualification in Gestalt Psychotherapy, in my 4th year of training at Metanoia Institute. I am bound by the BACP and UKCP code of ethics.
For one year, I worked as a counsellor at an organisation in Central London offering support for women, men and couples to discuss their difficulties with pregnancy, pregnancy loss and related issues. I have also worked for the last two years as a counsellor at Kingston Bereavement Service, recently supporting individuals who have suffered Covid-related loss.
I work within a Gestalt approach to psychotherapy. Gestalt works in a relational and integrated way, paying careful attention to the whole of your experience, including your emotions, thoughts and physical sensations that emerge in the present moment.
Here are some of the issues clients may bring to me: depression, anxiety, anger, abuse, trauma, addiction, relationship issues, marital and pre-marital concerns, domestic violence, family conflicts, panic attacks, low moods, feelings of loneliness and low self-esteem, bereavement; as well as those going through major life changes, such as pregnancy, birth, and menopause.
Prior to my training as a psychotherapist, I have worked in the corporate world for over 15 years and have developed an understanding of work-related issues and stress, in particular of the challenges for working parents struggling to reach a satisfying work-life balance.
I have always been interested in working with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Some of the issues my clients bring are to do with living in a new country, communication and relationships, identity, or conflicts between personal choices and the pressure of society, family or the community they belong to.
On occasions I may suggest some creative approaches (pastels, stones, drawing) as a way of exploring difficulties if it seems it may help and if you are happy to try a new approach.
I am a native French speaker and offer therapy in both French and English.
