About Me

Hello, I am Joshua, an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor.

People enter into therapy for many different reasons - perhaps you are unhappy with some aspect of your life, experiencing a crisis or you might desire further insight into the causes of your distress, unhappiness or anxiety.

Taking the first steps towards therapy can feel daunting, especially if you feel confused about what you might need, or aren’t sure what to expect from the process. You may even be wondering if therapy will make a difference at all. These are all understandable and normal reactions to beginning such a journey. It is important to find the right therapist for you - one who you can build trust with.

I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist based in North and North West London and online. I have over 12 years experience working with adults of all ages from diverse backgrounds, and a wide range of issues.

I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I abide by their code of ethics.

Psychotherapy

I offer you a safe, non-judgemental and private setting where you can freely explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

I will listen to you carefully and thoughtfully, and provide a space for you to unravel and more fully understand yourself, your life and relationships.

Getting Started

If you think you might benefit from psychotherapy or counselling, the first step would be for you to get in touch with me. I offer a free 10 minute phone consultation where you can tell me a little more about yourself. Contact me by phone or email to arrange this.

After this we may decide to schedule an Initial Consultation for which my fee is currently £85 for individuals and £110 for couples.

This initial meeting will be a chance for us to think together about what might be most useful for you, and whether short term counselling (for example 6 - 12 sessions) or open-ended psychotherapy would be more suitable. I have availability both in person at my consulting rooms in Highgate and Kentish Town and online.

How I Work

The Psychodynamic model maintains the view that the difficulties and anxieties we experience in our adult lives, the way we may think or feel about ourselves and how we relate to others, often have origins much further back in our earlier lives and childhood. These earlier experiences may have led to unhelpful patterns of thought or negative or unhealthy beliefs you hold about yourself or your life.

I will work with you to more fully understand yourself, past experiences and relationships and to work through the conflicts and difficulties you are experiencing. This process offers you valuable self-expression and reflection, and ultimately allows you to live a life that feels more genuine, connected and meaningful.

Area Of Expertise

I have a specialist interest working with artists, musicians and people from creative backgrounds.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is particularly helpful when working with people who feel blocked creatively or somehow stuck, demotivated or losing interest in their creative process or work.

I will work with you to explore possible conflicts, either past or present, which might be impacting on your creative work.

I have over 20 years experience as a songwriter, musician, music producer and poet. I understand first hand the importance of creativity, and the wide ranging influence it has on many aspects of life, and the difficulties and challenges inherent in working within creative fields.

Locations

I work from consulting rooms in Highgate N6 and Kentish Town NW5.

I also work online.

Fees

My fee is £85 for individuals for each 50 minute session and £110 for couples per 50 minute session.

The fee is the same for an Initial Consultation. I charge the full fee for missed sessions.

I believe it is important that therapy is available for people from a wide range of backgrounds, and I currently have a small number of reduced fee spaces for people who are out of work, on low incomes or studying full time.

Length Of Sessions

All therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Regular sessions are held at the same time each week.

Training and qualifications

I hold full registration with the British Psychoanalytic Council and am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I hold an MSc in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London and a BA in Counselling from Middlesex University.

I have over 12 years experience working as a psychotherapist in private practice and within the charity sector. I have a background in education and have worked extensively with students and young adults, as well as with older ages.

I also have over 20 years experience as a musician, songwriter and producer.
